AYER -- At its first official meeting since the April 28 Annual Town Election, the Board of Selectmen appointed Carolyn McCreary as the new chairman.

Former chairman Gary Luca thanked the board for his tenure at the helm over the last year and wished McCreary luck before the two swapped seats at the table during the board's May 6 meeting.

Luca also recognized former selectmen Frank Maxant and Pauline Conley, who were in attendance, for their service to the town.

Selectman Cornelius "Connie" Sullivan was appointed vice chairman. Richard Gilles was elected clerk.

All three motions were unanimous. -- Gayle Simone
